How are loan repayments worked out?

Your loan repayment is the amount you pay your lender each week, fortnight or month. It depends on three main things: how much you borrow, the interest rate, and the loan term. With a principal and interest loan, each repayment covers the interest charged plus a portion of the amount you borrowed, so your balance reduces over time.

Small changes can make a big difference. A slightly lower rate, a shorter term or more frequent repayments can reduce the total interest you pay over the life of the loan. Knowing your likely repayments upfront helps you set a comfortable budget before you commit.
