What is borrowing power?

Your borrowing power is the figure a lender lands on after running your income, expenses, debts and household size through their own risk model — their view of what you could repay without it being a stretch. That's a different question to what you'd like to spend, or what feels affordable to you day to day.

The catch is there's no single formula. Hand the same payslip to five lenders and you'll often get five different numbers, since each weighs things like overtime, credit limits and living costs differently. That gap is exactly why it pays to check your position across a panel rather than settling for whatever one bank quotes you.

Estimate only. Uses simplified tax, indicative HECS-HELP thresholds, a Kingdom Capital expense benchmark and a 3% serviceability buffer. Interest-only loans are assessed as principal & interest over the remaining term, as most lenders do. Each lender's policy differs — this is not an offer of credit.

Important: This calculator provides a general estimate only and does not take into account your personal circumstances or any lender's specific credit policy. It is not a quote, credit assessment or offer of credit. Speak with a Kingdom Capital broker for advice tailored to you.
